The July 2026 Newsletter.

A life saved by one more text message. A summer match that doubles every gift for Lifehouse. And a Valley full of members, sponsors, churches, and volunteers who make all of it possible. This is your mid-year look at the work.

From the Lifehouse sidewalk

The message she almost didn't send.

Saving a life doesn't always look like saving a life. Sometimes it looks like one more message, sent on a quiet weekend, when the other person hasn't written back in days.

Eva was in the parking lot of Planned Parenthood when she first met our Lifehouse team. She had come for the abortion pill. Our team offered her a flower. She stayed to talk, and she exchanged numbers with our coordinator.

She was still planning to go in. But before she did, she got back in her car. And then she drove away. Our team followed up with a text. What happened? She had changed her mind. She hadn't gone in.

That weekend, a few more messages went out. Encouragement. A reminder that someone was still on the other end of the phone. Eva didn't write back.

In this work, silence usually means one of two things. Either the woman has chosen life and moved forward with it, or she has changed her mind and gone back to the clinic. Our team has learned, painfully, that silence often means the second.

There's a moment in every follow-up when the easier thing is to stop. To give the silence its weight. To assume the worst has happened and let it be.

One more message, sent on a quiet weekend.

One message. One reply. One life that almost wasn't.

Our team didn't stop. One more message went out. This time, Eva wrote back.

"I'm so glad you kept texting me. I had another appointment. I was going to go back. Your message is the reason I didn't."

You may never meet Eva. You may never see her face when that text came in, or know which afternoon it was, or what she was doing when she made the decision to stay home. But make no mistake. Your support is exactly what kept our coordinator's phone in her hand on a quiet weekend, when sending one more message felt like sending a message into the void.

This summer, that support goes twice as far. Every gift to Right to Life of Central California will be matched, dollar for dollar, and every matched dollar goes straight to Lifehouse. The sidewalk. The phone. The team that refuses to stop reaching out.

Will you be the reason the next message goes? Give today, and your gift becomes two.

Lifehouse Summer Match

Your summer gift, doubled.

Stories from our supporters

Why I support Right to Life.

"This baby is in my heart and mind all these years. When I get to heaven, I sure want to see the baby grown up."

Dear Right to Life,

Thank you so much for being there for those who have no direction, nor support regarding a possible abortion.

The reason I donate to Right to Life:

I was a young nurse in 1975. I graduated from the nursing program at Fresno Community College, and I was hired at the Fresno County Hospital, also known as Valley Medical Center. My friend and I were hired as floats, going from floor to floor. Many hospitals were not hiring at that time.

I was asked to help with an abortion, and I was hesitant at first. The resident doctor needed a set-up, which I prepared. The woman came in. She appeared very nervous, but then calmed down.

I was told to put the medication for contractions into the IV bottle, but I refused. The doctor said he would. After a while, the fetus came out in the bedpan. I looked at it. It had a head, little fingers and toes. The woman asked to see the fetus. In my head, I asked why, so I proceeded to show her. I felt very sad; in a way, I felt sorry for her too. This was her 9th abortion, she said. I proceeded to clean everything up; I told the doctor I did not want to do this again. He said I did not have to help with abortions; it was my right. I remember this doctor was very good, and I respected him.

I was asked to do another abortion. Since I was on 4-West, Maternity, I went to my main supervisor's office and told her I did not want to do any more abortions. She asked if I was refusing. I said I am, so she fired me for insubordination. I remember slamming her glass door really hard as I went to my floor supervisor. My charge nurse said I was an excellent nurse and took me to the head nurse of the whole hospital. I knew her since I was 16 years old, when my brother and I volunteered at the hospital. The head nurse overrode my firing. When I saw the nurse who fired me walking down the hallway, she avoided eye contact for all the years I remained working there. I am 76 years old now, no children, could not have any. That abortion changed my life. I have encountered women who have had abortions, with regret and without regret.

That fetus, which to this day I call a baby, is in my heart and mind all these years. When I get to heaven, I sure want to see the baby grown up.

Thank you so much, God bless,

Donna

Rachel's Vineyard

Healing the pain of abortion, one weekend at a time.

Rachel's Vineyard weekend retreats are a beautiful opportunity for any person who has struggled with the emotional or spiritual pain of abortion. One participant shared this with us:

I didn't need to be saved or healed. I wasn't broken. I was the one people came to for help, not the one who needed it. I was a tough guy. Scars on my hands, my arms, my legs. Broken bones. Nothing could keep me down. But none of those scars came close to the one on my heart. When I was 18, in my second year of college, my girlfriend and I had an unplanned pregnancy. She felt an abortion was the only choice. I didn't agree, but my voice wasn't loud enough, so I let it happen. We never really talked about it. Eventually we drifted apart, and I moved on. Or so I thought.

The face I wore for everyone else was a front. What happened at 18 was never really put away. It was the driving force that pushed me down so many wrong roads. All the things that didn't work out were not because they weren't meant to be. I was ashamed, and I was punishing myself. How can a real man be part of something so horrific? For 24 years I carried that question. For 24 years I felt unworthy. It was a long, rough, scarred 24 years.

My second wife was the one who insisted I go to a Rachel's Vineyard retreat, a weekend of healing for parents grieving an abortion. The longing I had buried, to be forgiven, accepted, and healed, finally became real. For the first time in a long time, my outlook on my life and the people I love is clear. If you or someone you know has been affected by abortion and is ready to heal, I invite you to look into a Rachel's Vineyard retreat. The help is real, and it is there.
