Say NO to City Council Honoring Abortion

When: Tuesday, February 8th, 2022

Where: 2600 Fresno St, Fresno, CA 93721.

Time: 10:00AM

The Fresno City Council is considering a resolution to honor and advocate for legalized abortion as a constitutional right. This resolution would not institute any new law, initiate any new program, or provide any kind of tangible City funding or support for abortion. Nevertheless, it would be a public declaration by our city affirming abortion as a constitutional right to be celebrated and defended, rather than its reality: an attack on the lives of the innocent, and a disservice to women. The Council is scheduled to hear this resolution on February 10. The text of the resolution can be found below.

We will participate in a press conference and rally just outside City Hall at the Fresno Veterans’ Memorial in Downtown Fresno on Tuesday, February 8 at 10AM to urge our City Council members to vote against this resolution, and for Mayor Dyer to veto it if necessary. We will be joined by Fresno City Council Member Garry Bredefeld, Pastor Jim Franklin, Bishop Joseph V. Brennan, and others. We encourage our supporters to attend.

If you are a Fresno resident, you can find who your local Council member is by clicking here. Contacts for all members of the Council are available here. Contact information for the mayor is available here.

We encourage our Fresno supporters simply to make a quick phone call to your Council member: Identify yourself as a resident of Fresno and of the relevant Council district, and urge your council member to vote NO on the Reproductive Freedom resolution scheduled for February 10. Garry Bredefeld, the representative for City Council District 6, is already opposed to the bill.
